Ready for a spontaneous trip to Sweden?
That's how planned it was, it was ok, let's take the car and see you there!

We wanted to go visit a couple of friends who are studying in Göteborg, Sweden and then visit Stockholm!

France-> Belgium -> Holland -> Germany -> Denmark -> Sweden!
32 h to get there, 26h to come back (we took a little shortcut)! totaling around 2500 km
4 passengers, and 3 drivers among these

This was scribbled by the GPS, whose job was to find the shortest way between Alès and Paris, then Paris and Göteborg. Took 15 mins to calculate...
This thing even told us "Get aboard the ferry" when we were about to board in! That was hilarious!

We stopped in belgium to try belgian fries, but nothing special, and then in Germany for a Burger King mmmm....(Got lost for one hour to find one open xD)

On the ferry between Denmark and Sweden:
"Sweden, I can't see you, but we're coming!"

Göteborg
2nd biggest city in Sweden, where namely Aurélien (from Douai) and André (from Alès) are studying for their degrees.

At the port rests this huge boat! I'd love this one in my bathtub to play with xD!

The map of the crossing, good idea!

Konditori !! We are in Germani !!!

Skansen Kronan
This little castle is on top of a hill, and with its sibling on the other side of the city, they were supposed to protect Gothenburg from the attacks of the Danish!
The other one is surmounted by  the statue of a lion, this one by a metallic crown. For some reason, Thor is angry and keeps throwing thunderstorms on this building xD

Someone stole the liberty statue's torch!

The Roadmen (the Travellers) The team's here, + Andre at the extreme left.
For his birthday, we went to an expensive swedish restaurant (at the top of a skyscraper) to eat typical swedish food, here's the result :

Needless to say, Alex was very very happy when he got his plate... lol
He thought "So much food! I'm never going to finish this!"

And mine was exactly the same. So after eating this mmm.... appetizer, we decided to go to another restaurant to get a swedish dessert:

Hahaha friggin hilarious.... You see this little bathtub that would have its place in a doll's house is actually Enguerrand's white chocolate mousse hahaha!
And my plate is even funnier...W T F!!!

... That's why we regularly ended up at Burger King or the chineses' all you can eat in the surroundings!

There are truly wonderful landscapes in Göteborg, the kind you'd expect to see in Canada, but not his close to Europe! Plus, you add a variety of colors due to the beginning of Autumn, and that's perfect.
If you want to go hiking, that's a great place to do some! We're thinking about doing some camping on one of these islands next summer... to be continued

Jump! Jump! Jump!
I volunteered as a lifeguard for crazy frenchmen. It was damn cold, and I'm not even talking about the water!
I still wonder how he didn't get sick after all this xD

Then we went to the university, to wave hi to the students DURING class, and to the teacher as well.. funny

And... came the end of these three days at Göteborg, and we took the train to go to Stockholm!

Waiting for Thomas
Windows 95 - powered trains.. Yeah Jérome likes it! :-p

Le tricot- sport national
You may not see it in this pic, but she was actually knitting me a swedish pullover when I asked her if I could take a picture :-p
That's what you do when you get bored too?

I prefer playing this!!!!

Hahaha awesome! Adult's games are just bigger versions of kid's games!!

Every morning, we got breakfast served by princess Leia, this is soo geeky xD
Star wars buns and american pies! blurp

Fresh paint!

Stockholm, where birds train to stand on one foot

Look at the moon, ok?

I found out where they all get their blond hair from haha busted!!

Le restaurant végétarien à risque!

Ladies and gentlement, the Black Pearl! I didn't see Jack Sparrow though...

Cool people we met in the street, Emily and Emilia, how original ^^

To sum up, I really liked Sweden, I expect to come back for some more fun times, but next year because it's going to get really cold up there ! :-p
I recommend not to try swedish restaurants ^^ at least if you want to eat a normal sized meal, and instead make your own salmon+swedish bread sandwiches mmmm.....

I now have a couple friends there I gotta visit, and anybody who's going to Stockholm has to go to my favorite Hostel there, Crafoord place! Ingrid is awesome!
The swedes are open and cool, I remember the elevator girls who were our friends during 20 floors, the blue bar at the 40th floor, I still can't count how many times we walked through Stockholm from South to North, enough to compensate for the hours spent in the car sleeping in all sorts of special positions...lol

Now where's going to be the next spontaneous trip? any ideas? If it's fun enough, we might want to organize this! Count on me!

We arrived at... :   Fruit paradise, Ohio

Fruit paradise, everything grows in cans here, orange, red or green,.. get your 5 fruits and veg a day (for example, you don't need to eat more than 5 peas/day) Then comes the eternal question : Do you really believe tomato is a fruit? I'll force whoever tells me this again to eat one for dessert for a month!

Speaking of fruits, do you know any Fruit Freak? I know one haha, miss Pina-Freak lol she's going to kill me for that... I tell you more about her in the next article... in Dayton, OH!

Hahaha before we continue, look at this (Explicit content) :
http://www.lemondrop.com/2009/09/29/germans-stink-in-bed-literally/?icid=mainmaindl1link4http://www.lemondrop.com/2009/09/29/germans-stink-in-bed-literally/

Sorry german guys, french rank 4th!! yes, we invented the french kiss, and some other cool french things... I'll show you.. or maybe not lol...

Well well well, here we go! Guess where it is :

I can hear the ..."What what what? Oktoberfest?" lol noooooo
and you can hear the typical yodlalalalala at the end lol.. I can't even do it!  can you?

And there's even the sign of the Hofbräuhaus. But but but there's american flag!

When reading this, and especially with this next video, I'll hear all of my german friends rolling the floor laughing. Yeah yeah somebody tried to copy the german experience abroad! And here's what you get :

The only place on earth where chicks like to chicken dance!

Experienced viewers may notice that... actually the cam follows my eyes lol / that means, girls, here's what a normal guy would look at lol first : at the girls, then at the other girls, and then ....at the waitress lol

You have to admit that this chicken dance is ridiculous... and hilarious at the same time. Have no shame!

This is where I first felt like going back to Munich.. and where Rachel called me "What are you doing?" nothing, chicken dancing in Germany!

Here's the proof that there's some cool people in Cincinnati :

You can see me, Ali at the front, and Sami at the back, and the 6 (or 7? soo many) awesome girls we met that night! Sylvia's taking the picture, the so-called"Katie" in white (this one is crazy lol jk)
I don't even remember how all of us met, we were like ... walking down the street, ...and *pouf* we're in a conversation with cool people left and right, and then *pouf* i just high-fived them all one by one Hahaha... you guys rock! see you again soon I hope!

I was ready to take the car and drive for 10h to go from Alès to Munich ....

No way! Because of some dude's mother who said "No, you stay home" (frankly, who can believe that?), he can't take the car and all 5 of us have to stay here!!
 So here's a tribute to Oktoberfest, where I was supposed to be this weekend!

(For those who don't know, it's the biggest beer festival on the planet, and it takes place in Munich, Germany)

-> You have to start the little music below to enjoy the local ambience while you read the blog! :-P

lyrics of the song at the middle:
In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus! Prost! Prost!

........Even the girls drink more than me there lol! For those who don't know, 1L / maß ! that's one kilo-beer, 1/10th of the recommended daily beer intake at Munich xD

Himmel der Bayern!! = Sky of Bavaria!
It's raining beer, alleluia, it's raining beer...;

Yeah, you can count, 6 kilos! and I saw one who can hold up to 12! Now that's sport!

This picture was taken in Germany, that's why you have to remember this little sign that's written on the beer maß ! HB, with a crown upon it, that's the sign of the Hofbräuhaus! You'll see it again soon on this blog ... to be continued

All don't go there (only) for the good  beer they serve:

Oki, little tribute to the german girls I met all over Germany when I was there hehe! I'll be back!!

Don't you suspect he lost his parents on purpose? xD

German country music aha?

So, unfortunately we'll have to wait 'till next year to enjoy it.... The one who doesn't come has to pay the others a beer case!

-> Welcome to Ohio State!
-> Cincinnati, OH

Cincinnati! At first, we went there only to visit Ali, one of my french friends from my school, the Ecole des Mines de Douai ( in the north of France, more than 4 000 miles = 7000 km from Cincinnati).

We hadn't seen eachother since I had first left France to go to Germany, this february! How unexpected to meet so far away from our school! He aws doing his internship for General Electric, while I was in vacations...hahah . Yeah that's the fact that I was in vacations that allowed me to see old friends from Douai while they were doing their internships.. even though some hated me for that ^^.

We stayed there only for the evening, because the following day, he had to work and we were supposed to go to New Albany.... I know some people who're going to be pleased that at last!, I start talking about New Albany haha!
But we came back to Cincinnati to party with Ali two days later, on a Friday evening: Legendary!This is the next article...

But first -> Back to Indiana
-> New Albany
!!

Typical american district of New Albany (yeah just like in the american series they broadcast in France). So for us it was like living in a desperates housewives episode xD.

Rachel's! What's not typical though, is a french guy like Sami walking in front of the house...

Me and Rachel (aka Rachounette!)

Sami & Crystal (aka Supermommy!)

Together,we went on mad adventures, involving a haunted house, a big mansion we were pretending to wanna buy, a crazy costume shop... I told you it was like the american series/movies...xD

scary, isn't it?

Sami when he turns into a werewolf by night... hairy beast xD

Supermommy is the superchief of the peace and love tribe we form...haha!

And.. the lovely Rach the Musketeer!

Another part involves occupying a huge playground and not letting 6-years old play! that's bad!

Géronimo0oO! Watch out the crazy french arrive!

Swinging under the moonlight...

The dream team!

I totally loved the culinary experiences, that was awesome! From the delicious chocolate gravy (I have to learn how to cook this!) to the burgers and the orange tomatoes^^. Thank you very much again!

The family brew their own Sun Tea! I remember the lesson : 100% Unsweetened!
Look at the color! I can't help being amazed by it! It must be my tourist artistic side xD

To sum up, we spent amazingly good times in New Albany, even though it's a small city you won't get a chance to visit until you get to know somebody who lives there...hehe.
Thanks again to everybody and hoping to see all of you again soon! who knows ;-p

Needless to say, we were sad to leave....
But something special was waiting for us at Cincinnati,OH ...to be continued ^^

Jeudi 3 septembre 2009
Ok, my little article frenzy came to a halt when I moved to Alès, South of France, not that far from Nîmes, where i'm going to be for 4 months at the "Ecole des Mines d'Alès"! I'll tell you more about my adventures there later, and yeah that's already amazing :-p

So, let's go back to the roadtrip. End of Chicago 2-day stay, then came the last evening where we met Gaby and Maria. Thanks again for the help btw! Too bad we didn't stay longer!

-> "Welcome back to Michigan"

-> City of Grand Rapids

 quite big city with 200 000 inhabitants

That's where I met Becca, we know eachother since a couple of years now, without having a chance to meet until then!

Where grown-ups can have a swing (faire de la balançoire) on a Monster truck wheel! Some people wanted to get on it first, but I outrunned them while screaming my favorite warcry "Geronimo!!!" and they just ran away in fear and trembling xD Epic victory

This thing, the emblem of Grand rapids, is called " La Grande Vitesse", certainly means some french came here and significantly influenced the city.. I mean somebody before me lol... even though the only thing I really influenced there is the parkmeter with a few coins.....

With Becca and Katie
Ok, there wasn't much to see there, apart from us, so for once i'm going to be a lot on the pics. This one was taken during the first evening there, in a pub which got visited by a charming bat while all the girls around began to scream!
come on, girls! I like bats, they're interesting creatures :-p

Following day: One of the best afternoons during this roadtrip! We went swimming with Becca and Brenda in Lake Michigan! awesome, I recommend everybody who lives in the surroundings to go there!

This great beach was in Holland, Michigan : See for yourself

Real sand, water at the same temperature than the air, lots of waves!
Very big waves, had a lot of fun, actually the flag was red, nothing too bad to scare us though ^^.

That's when I had the crazy idea to climb up there, on this rudimentary lighthouse to help you back home when you're lost in the middle of the ... lake lol
Ok, it's big enough so you can't see the other side...

We had a lot of fun there, met some tourists and watched the sunset on the lake... inspiring before heading back to Grand Rapids to eat something at Applebee's : I took BBQ pork ribs, typical dish, very masculine, and you eat that with your hands while splashing sauce everywhere, perfect for me!

Why does my hair looks like a pineapple?
(Tiffany would love a haircut like that haha.. we'll get to her later)

View on the lake & the pier

Thanks gals, see ya next time! We discovered a cheap but good cocktail there, what's the name again? sprite + grenadine, we learned how to knock bats down, how to spot a homosexual barman, how to climb a lighthouse, how to use a washing machine in an american laundromat, learned how to make strange noises with grass straws....  crazy

and...we went on to the next city:
-> Welcome to Indiana
"Indianapolis city limit"

Indianapolis, capital of Indiana, 800 000 inhabitants! And a lott of geeks! xD
Yeah when we got there, we ended up in some kind of conference hall where they were preparing the GenCon conference, only board games. And geeks from the corners of the planet were here to play these! You could see people act scenes from films in the streets, strange guys everywhere talking like Orcs from Wow, acting as if they had lightsabers xD strange....

This is the visible part of Indianapolis' biggest mall, a glass-covered ceiling on the rest area. architectural curiosity, the thing is really big.

Squirrel from Indianapolis hey! what d'ya think! They're more red and a bit different.

The Indiana State Capitol! When we got there, it was closed, as usual when we go to administration buildings! However, we met the guy supposed to do the cleaning there, who gave us some advice about the city, even though the thing he most insisted on was : " You have to go to hooters! that's awesome!!" xD

They wrote the name on it, just in case you're lost / you want to steal it ...

When I first saw that, I was like... mmmm .. I already saw something like that.. and indeed it looks like the "rotes Rathaus", Berlin's town hall :

And indeed, they probably drew inspiration from that.

We only stayed a couple hours at Indianapolis, just a stop on our way to Cincinnati!
That's what the next article is about, Cincinnati, Ohio, and all of my german friends are going to laugh about it, you'll see!
